The ACT Scaling Test (AST) is a compulsary test for all ACT Year 12 students wishing to gain an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).
The test is designed to measure a range of general skills considered to be releveant to success in a variety of courses and to studies at university.
The AST is run at your college over two days in September each year. In the case of documented illness (medical certificate required) or misadventure, students who are unable to sit at the time may apply to sit a second sitting later in the year. Special sittings can also be arranged intersate or overseas for students not in Canberra when the test is held, but applications must be received well in advance.
The ATAR is a percentile ranking used by universities to assist in the selection of school leavers for entry into undergraduate coures. It is used as an indication of a student's suitablility for study at univeristy level, and to allow universities to select appropriate numbers of students for each course.
